Project 3: Composition

Artist Statement: I took this group of pictures on my vacation in hawaii. They were all taken at different beaches, except the picture of the bird was taken at my favorite shave ice shop on the island. I have done job as an artist if my viewers feel relaxed and warm, i feel the colors and the fact the beaches are empty would send the viewer into a tranquil state just looking at these and thinking about it. In the first picture i focused on balance and line, you start by looking at my little sister then the line the water creates on the sand draws you back into the mountain, the mountain brings balance to my little sister. The third picture does the same, the rocks lead you into the background and it is also balanced. Pictures  four and five I focused on framing and depth. Picture two I framed and cropped the bird in the photo because the background was taking away.

Artist Statement: This series of photographs is about capturing an object and portraying it in a number series, the first picture with one shoe, the second with two shoes, so on and so on. The pictures come together because it's the same object just multiplied. It's not the same exact object seeing as the heels are different styles and colors, but it's the fact they are all heels that brings the picture together. I represented form and shape in these photos. I feel the most successful part of my pictures was the angle I shot the shoes from after trying a whole bunch! The least successful part of these pictures was first of all the shoes didn't want to stay balanced for that long, but I tried to work as fast as i could to get a good shot with the shoes still on the fountain. The second obstacle was when I thought of my idea for this picture I didn't realize all the things around the are, but even so I think the shoes are what catches your eyes the most, so it was alright. If I could do this project again I would think of another location that was cool, but where the shoes would stay or balance better.

Hi, my name is Aubrey, I'm a student at Point Loma High. I've always loved art and I think I gained my love to draw from my dad who is an amazing artist. I recently got into photography and decided to take a photography class. I think what drove me to taking this class is the similarities of looking at something to draw it and looking at something and "drawing it" with my camera. I love taking pictures of scenery and things outside. I also enjoy taking pictures of my friends and family especially my little sister Amelia, I will occasionally take pictures of my pets, but only one of them is photogenic. I like experimenting with angles and lighting, I like taking risks and trying new things with my camera. Hopefully I will learn to perfect my picture taking skills while in this class.
